Erectile Dysfunction Medication

Erectile dysfunction (ED), often known as impotence, is a frequent kind of sexual dysfunction in which men are unable to obtain or maintain an erection. The treatment for ED is mostly determined by the underlying cause or disorders. As a result, what works for some men may not be the optimal treatment or drug for you.

ED can be caused by health concerns, emotional issues, or a combination of the two.

Typically, doctors recommend sildenafil (Viagra) as the first treatment for erectile dysfunction. Other successful drugs include Stendra (avanafil), Cialis (tadalafil), and Levitra (vardenafil) (vardenafil).

Staxyn, a sublingual formulation of Vardenafil (the pill is placed beneath the tongue and absorbed into the bloodstream), is also available. Sublingual formulations function more quickly than medications given orally.

In roughly 70% of otherwise healthy men, ED medications can generate an erection strong enough to commence intercourse. Your choice of medication may be influenced by your finances and lifestyle. Cialis (tadalafil), for example, may be the best option if you have sex frequently. It has a long-acting effect.

Aside from the drugs indicated above, your doctor may suggest the following for ED:

There are many natural treatments for ED. They range from lifestyle changes like modifying your diet and exercise to getting mental health or relationship counseling.

1. Changes in lifestyle, such as:

  • Keeping a healthy body weight.
  • Keeping yourself physically active.
  • Quitting smoking, abstaining from excessive alcohol usage, and abstaining from any drug abuse.
  • Stress reduction can be achieved through a variety of activities such as meditation, sports, music, and yoga.
  • Getting enough rest and sleep.

2. Counseling for stress, anxiety, relationship issues, or any other emotional condition.
3. If low testosterone levels are the cause of the dysfunction, testosterone supplements can help.
4. Alprostadil is an injectable medicine or a suppository that mimics a class of naturally occurring molecules in our bodies called prostaglandins.
5. Medication to treat underlying health problems including diabetes, high blood cholesterol, or renal damage.
6. By drawing blood into the penis, vacuum devices can create an erection.
7. Penile implants and operations to restore damaged blood arteries are examples of surgery (revascularization surgery).

What are the erectile dysfunction drugs’ adverse effects?

Side effects of medications like Viagra (sildenafil), Stendra (avanafil), Cialis (tadalafil), Levitra and Staxyn (vardenafil) include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Flushing
  • Congestion in the
  • nose
  • stomach ache
  • Diarrhea
  • Muscle ache
  • A rash on the skin or
  • a reversible kind of color blindness

These medications may also interact with any other medications you’re taking. As a result, if you are currently taking any medicine, you must inform your doctor.

These Drugs May Interfere With ED Medication

If you’re taking a nitrate drug for chest discomfort or heart problems, you won’t be able to take ED medication.

  • Nitroglycerin
  • Isosorbide dinitrate is a kind of isosorbide.
  • Mononitrate of isosorbide
  • Some recreational drugs, such as “poppers,” are illegal.

When erectile dysfunction drugs are combined with a nitrate medication, blood pressure might drop suddenly and dramatically. Other blood pressure medications, such as alpha-blockers for urine symptoms, must be given at least four hours apart from ED meds.

If you’re using ED medication and you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, see a doctor right away.

  • An erection that hurts.
  • An erection that lasts for more than four hours (persistent penile erection can permanently damage the penis).
  • During intercourse, you may have nausea, chest pain, or dizziness.
  • Vision loss that occurs suddenly.
